Why it's important to be weird in a 21st century community. The relationship between art and our subconscious.
AUTHOR:Anastasia Lomakina
Abstract
Purpose:
To demonstrate that most people are not at all strange and they do not need to be ashamed of themselves. Each person has a special understanding of the word “strangeness” and this does not give the right to judge others by any pattern accepted by society. I want to explain how a person expresses his “I" through art. How art helps us to understand, accept and love ourselves.
Future presentation plan:
Generalization of the topic
Oddities in the nature of people and why is it normal
My oddities (table with the results of the survey I conducted)
How modern art and the concept of “strangeness” are connected
How art and passion for creativity helped me to understand myself
Conclusion (contribution that I would like to make to the world community)
Introduction and history of the idea creation.
As soon as I get closer to a person, open up to him and become myself, he tells me the following phrase: “You are strange.” You know, when you hear this from every second person, you already get used to it, so you try not to attach much importance to public opinion. If I had stopped there, it wouldn't have been about me at all.
You may ask, what is my strangeness expressed in? I asked myself this question and it stumped me. Appearance? Character? Hobbies? Maybe my dreams? What motivates people when they give me such a conclusion? I had to feel like a detective. I was nervous and wrote out everything that could come to mind. I wanted to prove everyone wrong. There are a lot of people in the world who think outside the box, but this is a completely normal phenomenon. Art and communication with people with similar interests helped me overcome this complex and understand that all branches of art are the key to subconsciousness and self-expression.
At the moment, almost no research has been done on this topic. Researcher Ellen Winner’s latest book, “How Art Works: A Psychological Exploration,” is based on years of research at Harvard and Boston College.

Methods.
I made observations about myself and my behavior. I also conducted a survey among friends, which will be presented in the presentation.
Results.
As a result of a survey that my friends took, it turned out that each person has a certain understanding of the oddities in the character and behavior of other people
The oddities of each are different and do not overlap with each other
The manifestation of emotions and the direction of energy in art demonstrates the character of a person
Art unites even those people whose interests in everyday life are completely different
Discussion.
In the world community, art can help to unite peoples and nations. It is impossible to exclude the word “strangeness”, but we can try to remove the stereotypes that correspond to it. My idea is to create a modern world that will use art not only as an aesthetic pleasure, but also as a method of communication.
